South Durham and Cleveland Netball Association was created by the Division of the Old Durham County in 1974. We took the area south of Peterlee across to Durham City. (Peterlee and Durham City are both in North Durham.)
At that time we incorporated Teesside, now Cleveland, to go south of the Tees to the southern borders of Redcar and Cleveland.
At first we had less than 6 affiliated clubs, with the major centres being in Hartlepool and South Durham. We extended into Teesside to try to develop netball in that area. We started County teams and progressed to the highest level of County netball. In addition the Cleveland League was established in the Middlesbrough/Stockton area in 1982, now still thriving. Leagues then developed in Darlington, the Dolphin Centre, and other areas of South Durham and Cleveland.
Now we have 32 affiliated clubs, most Schools affiliating and a very stable County committee. This has meant that the development of netball has continued for the past 36 years. We are fortunate to now have paid development officers to help, who will continue to push netball forward in our area, alongside our very experienced County Committee.
